Ryan Reynolds in a serious role is a bit different from the shitty self-mockery Reynolds, but he pulls his string, for what it represents. Denzel Washington puts down his umpteenth action role - I'm tired of seeing those mannerisms by now. In any case, neither can really excel or lift this film above average.
It's just too... mediocre on every level for that. Not that it doesn't look nice, that's for sure. The first half hour starts off at a decent pace, but like many other genre members it breaks down somewhere halfway and we have to wait for the predictable twists to usher in the finale. There is still a nice action moment here and there, but all in all Safe House is nothing more or less than a nice weekday action thriller, without a doubt.

Unbelievable CIA crap with way too much action, action, action. No, give me the Bourne series then, it's a suit from the same cloth, but with more atmosphere and a bit more light-hearted, perhaps also a bit more limping on the sentiment.
