Jake Hoyt begins his first day with the narcotics squad. Alonzo Harris, the leader of the team, turns out not to do everything by the book. In an unorthodox way, he tries to get Jake ready for the job, but is the way he does it lawful?

Stays strong.
Film that you look at from the perspective of a well-acting Hawke, the rookie with ambitions who, like us, initially doesn't know what to think of Washington. Instantly domineering and intimidating, Washington's Alonzo is a street cop who breathes authority from experience, and you feel the discomfort when Hawke doesn't know when to laugh or protest. Constant disbelief at how far the job he is applying for deviates from the ideal image in his head. Constant Suspicion: Is He Being Tested? And if so, is it because of goals with which he must or can associate?
It all comes down to Washington, who plays his part with gusto. One moment a charismatic storyteller who displays contagious bursts of laughter, the next moment the criminal with a badge who uses rather sharp and especially compelling teaching methods in his teachership. I used to think his last fifteen minutes were a bit over the top; I now see it as the perfect mental breakdown of a corrupt cop who had it so well not too long ago.
Soundtrack is nice and pompous and visually it is occasionally played well. Nowhere mindblowing, but with a boyish charm that fits with the macho culture that it has to breathe. Perfect for this movie. Nice supporting role from Snoop. Dre is not a gifted actor, he probably got his part in exchange for his delivered track.
Simply a strong film with an interesting story structure. At the most, a bit well-finished, but because of the lasting re-watch value, I'm still doing it a bit: 4*

movie in which I don't like to see some actors in this movie from the beginning I could think it would definitely not be a good movie even rotte tomatoes give it 4 stars also VPRO gits think this movie is good camera work maybe but the story and the movie itself doesn't really mean much. an inexperienced cop rides with a narcotics detective to learn but he is just a very corrupt man and the young cop finds out very quickly. I really don't understand some people what the hell is so special about this movie? just a film like so many there are good coup bad coup and for that he got an oscar crazy crazy film world so you see again the film world is cut that they have no idea about films no sorry have seen better films of this actor
