Saw it quite a while ago, but it wasn't there yet. I remember that I didn't like it much, messy work, not very catchy atmosphere and a very irritating soundtrack. The gore is there, but it's not mind-blowing.

I came across this film via jeroentjuhhhhh -> So give it a chance.

What horrible music! Death metal or something? Jesus what a horror. Almost as bad as blondie's head.

Yes, wonderfully sick of course. What a great killer, with his axe. How he went wild was phenomenal. Cool mask too, nice and creepy! Sickness really shines through. Suddenly, half an hour into the movie, I didn't even find the music disturbing anymore. Even improved the atmosphere. Who would have thought that!

Gave me a bit of a 'Halloween' vibe every now and then. In a positive sense, that is. Nice atmosphere. Especially when he spoke, his voice was terrifying. Actually, I didn't find the whole story surrounding it interesting at all, but that didn't matter to me. I didn't find that whole motif and that story of their youth spectacular, quite a dime a dozen in fact. The film therefore mainly focuses on the killer and his sick actions. And my sister's animal instinct for survival.

The only problem was that I had nothing to do with the sister. I didn't like her and couldn't sympathize with her. Granted, she had balls. But that said it all for me, as far as I was concerned she was just one of the other cattle for slaughter.

Another great video!

I hope that the end result that director Matt Farnsworth had in mind does not resemble The Orphan Killer. This particularly messy horror film throws everything together, but forgets to be effective. The obtrusive music choices in particular come across as too silly for words. David Backus plays the so-called Orphan Killer, of whom Farnsworth and his team make a completely idiotic figure. The cheap-looking mask removes a lot of potential threat early on, but as soon as he starts repeating his Biblical dialogues, his character completely falls apart. In between there is murder in a very explicit way, but this hardly disguises the dry and almost incomplete whole. Diane Foster also plays a rather unsympathetic character and Farnsworth doesn't work it all out very well either. Going to church once does not guarantee a deep and intellectual character and Foster is a good example of this. The Orphan Killer does a good job with the practical horror effects, but the visual power, environment and substantive story hit like a pair of pliers on a pig. Fortunately, Farnsworth does not extend his completely nonsensical film to an unnecessarily long running time, but if that is to be a cinematic compliment then you are not exactly doing it right.
