The makers made the right choice by letting the franchise take a different path. Franchises like Evil Dead or Dead Snow are examples where a bit of humor works well with horror. Unfortunately, Rec 3 doesn't always succeed. The tension is gone, so that humor is important if you still want to offer something. And that humor isn't witty enough. Too bad, because sometimes the jokes are good, but then you stay hungry for a while. Atypical Hollywood, and at the same time way too good.

Great!

I think it's quite nerve-wracking to poke fun at your own product in this way. Parts 1 and 2 were serious, clammy hands hysteria; should there ever be a marathon (count me in!), we can let off steam and laugh the tension away during this part.

Opening is nothing short of brilliant, from the dropdown menu and slide show, you really wonder if you've landed on the right movie. Plaza also shows clearly that he deliberately abandons logic, claustrophobia and seriousness (who else made that wedding DVD), and injects the saga with a good dose of humor and self-mockery.

In particular, the beginning of the outbreak has a few moments of laughter (Royalties! Royalties!), but towards the end humor and horror have nicely united in a playful, gory overall atmosphere. From the knight outfits and chainsaw, the tension is as good as gone, the fun is no less. Also pay attention to the soundtrack, it's just as brilliant as the DVD menu.

Lead actress Dolera was already allowed to parody Vidal (from part 1) in Spanish Movie (2009), so a logical casting for this role and she also shows that she can strike the perfect tone. In love, dogged, determined or maimed: she and her big eyes play very captivatingly and leave the rest a bit behind.

Nice ending, maybe a little sweeter would have been the final icing on the cake, but again Plaza shows that he makes his choices consciously. It keeps the series alive, because after part 2 everything seemed done. Very curious about part 4, the only one I never saw. For this a big 3.5 *

The virus from [REC] and [REC]² that transforms people into bloodthirsty cannibals appears to have also spread beyond Barcelona. Clara [Leticia Dolera] and Koldo [Diego Martin] are the bride and groom whose wedding takes a turn for the worse when the virus spreads there. Broadly follows the structure of [REC] by introducing the main characters through amateur footage from the wedding day up to that point before moving on to the same bloodshed we've already seen in the two predecessors. Broadly speaking, this is a reprise of [REC] and [REC]² , until the finale in which Dolera decides to take matters into her own hands.
