England, 18th century. When the shameless Henry Fengriffen uses a lapsed feudal right to dishonor the woodcutter's wife Silas on her wedding night, the latter desperately resists. In anger, Henry cuts off the hapless man's hand, after which Silas casts a devastating curse on him and his posterity. Two generations later, the young Count Charles Fengriffen leads his bride Catherine into the ancestral castle. She soon has anxiety attacks, because a horrific threat creates terror...
