Desperate Hours plot

"Desire is the deadliest weapon of all."

The opening with the beautiful landscape (later also seen occasionally) in the background is beautiful, but the film itself is a bit disappointing. Although the story was quite nice, the film never really managed to captivate or convince me. Let alone that the film became exciting. Considering the cast that plays in it, you would not really expect that, but they are actually to blame because they do not convince anywhere. And then especially Mickey Rourke and Anthony Hopkins. The only one who plays a bit nice is Mimi Rogers.

After a few years I watched it again on the television channel AMC and it certainly did not disappoint the first three quarters. The film is built up nicely, the atmosphere is reasonably good but somewhere halfway through the film I completely lose interest when the tension is interrupted and all kinds of less relevant storylines are discussed that are also portrayed by particularly weak actors. Lindsay Crouse in particular as the female detective really does not do a good job. It was incomprehensible to me why the director pays so much attention to this.

In short, the basic story remains intact, but due to a poorly written script and very weak supporting roles, this film adaptation fails to convince.

Not as bad as I remember but still pretty mediocre.

Bad.

Very bad, even. Who is the main culprit, I agree. It remains a mystery how you have a big name both in front of the camera and behind it, someone who actually no longer has to prove himself, and then you make such a badly written, acted and directed monstrosity. Possibly too much interference from a studio boss left and right, who knows? In any case, you are the victim as a film viewer. This film is a gray, run-of-the-mill thriller, almost unworthy of the name because there is no tension.
