"First comes love. Then comes the interrogation."
Nurse Greg Focker wants to marry kindergarten teacher Pam Byrnes. It is tradition in her family that the husband-to-be asks father Byrnes for his daughter's hand. But the family is rather eccentric, and as an ex-CIA agent, Byrnes even subjects Greg to a lie test. In fact, he hates anyone who wants to start something with his eldest daughter and clearly shows that. Greg can't do anything right, of course, and the harder he tries, the more he goes wrong...

Actually a pretty nice comedy where the relationship between Stiller and De Nro came out pretty well. Not very original in itself, whereby the strict, demanding father does not think highly of his future son-in-law, but it works here.
Greg can do almost nothing right. He has his appeal against, his name against and comes across very bumbling. He is put to the test by his father-in-law-to-be and his fiancé's friends ignore him completely. Appropriate when the tide turns when he becomes the hero. Suddenly he is the popular man with flair...
Nice to watch, predictable, but extremely enjoyable. Nice!

My favorite liquor store in Amsterdam had a bartender who looked very much like De Niro, but was very strict. You were not allowed to move a table. The real De Niro can play all kinds of roles, but in this role the castellan is the most like him, because De Niro looks very intimidating.
The film alternates between bland moments with fun ones. Silly is that everything that can go wrong goes wrong, but sometimes that results in fun situations. Of course the main character lies about growing up on a farm and that he can milk anything that has a nipple, but it is funny that De Niro then asks with a straight face: "I have nipples. Could you milk me?" And so it goes on. Also in this film a rush-to-the-airport scene, but slightly different from other comedies.
Ultimately, this movie isn't great, but it has its nice moments. 2*
