Tomboy plot

"There's a new kid in town."

There's something odd about boyish 10-year-old girl Laure. She just moved with her parents and younger sister Jeanne. It's summer vacation, so Laure hasn't been able to make friends at school yet. When the equally old Lisa mistakes her for a boy, Laure introduces herself as Mikaël. As the bond between the two grows stronger, it becomes increasingly difficult for Laure to lie.

Controversial drama film about a girl who introduces herself as a boy after moving house. Cinematography: realistic colors, indoor scenes in the apartment and outdoor scenes on the street, playing field and the forest. Cast: the young players are doing very well, the leading role of Laure/Mikaël is realistically played by 12-year-old Zoé Héran. And her younger sister is great too!

Plot: it's summer vacation and Laure has just moved, girl next door Lisa sees her for a boy (because of short hair and boyish appearance), then Laure takes on the boyhood role of Mikaël. She plays soccer and plays with the boys like she's no different. The end of the film is humiliating, Laure's mother does not respond well to me.....

Message: the film is never explicit, but the message is clear. You should be free to be whoever you want without anyone else deciding. And you have to accept people as they want to be......

Summary: I don't think this film can be compared at all with Boys don't cry (1999), because it is so American. This movie feels less played out due to the well-acting young kids in the lead roles. Gender identity manifests itself from a very young age and is known from many transgender people. You don't become one, but you 'are' it. Once came across a mother in the store with 3 year old son who only wanted to wear girls clothes and his mother agreed. An example of a super mom! This movie makes you think about this.....

I saw a few from Sciamma recently, one more to go. Excellent director and someone who is on my list to follow forever. Thematic always within the same waters, but she always brings it authentic and very serene.

Also Tomboy, where intersexuality plays a role in a 10-year-old girl who feels like a boy and behaves accordingly. Also in appearance she leans closer to a boy. Very strong acting Zoé Héran who plays very natural and with a lot of flair. She is clearly suffering and has a hard time expressing this to the outside world. I understood her mother, but at the same time found it very humiliating and not the right way to tell the truth.

Great role play between Laure and her sister and with the other children. Nice plot told from Laure's (and the other kids') point of view. Beautiful!

Film about a girl who would rather be a boy. A nice feature for a film and a nice theme for a growing up drama. The fact is also convincingly portrayed and the acting is really fantastic, especially by the protagonists. The French are often very good at that, to let young children act very convincingly and naturally. This movie is another good example of that.
