On a volcanic island near the kingdom of Hetvia reigns Count Dakkar, a kind-hearted leader and scientist who has eliminated class differences between all islanders. When the dictatorial ruler of Hetvia, Baron Falon, invades the island, Dakkar, his daughter Sonia and his fiancée and engineer Nicolai Roget manage to escape on a submarine. Falon gives chase with a second submarine. During this pursuit, they come across a mysterious land at the bottom of the ocean, inhabited by dragons, giant squid and strange variant of the human race...
