Compared to "The Adventures of Robin Hood," Errol Flynn is a shadow of his former self. He looks weary, and the fact that his character, Prince Edward, explains the film's title because he's unrecognizable in his black armor seems merely a convenient excuse to have a stand-in do the heavy lifting. In a sword fight early in the film, Flynn appears stiff, heralding his physical decline in his tragic final years. The cinematography and sets look cheap, though the presence of Peter Finch and Christopher Lee is still a reason for some to watch this old-fashioned sword-and-sword film, even if it adds nothing to the genre.

According to the film encyclopedia, this is the last sword film with Flynn in the lead role, he looks visibly older but it
The weakest point is the mediocre story, which is just a little bit captivating. The theme is a bit strange: the English occupy French territory but are still the good guys. But hey, it's a movie.
