“It's the oldest question of all, George. Who can spy on the skewer?”
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy shows that sometimes a revision can work wonders. I now knew the story and the ending, and that made me pay attention to other things. The slow pace, the gray colours, the subdued acting, the little (pronounced) emotion, the end in which the traitor is unmasked without much fireworks, etc. Everything contributes to an atmospheric film that makes an increasingly impression with every viewing.
No sentimental stuff or grand gestures, just a bunch of spies doing their job to expose a double agent. There is certainly room for emotion, and I found Strong and Hardy especially convincing in this. And then you also have Oldman as Smiley, Cumberbatch, Hurt, Jones, Hinds and Firth. Just about the best Britain has to offer. The story is ingeniously put together and in the end all the puzzle pieces fit. It is sometimes complicated, but at the end of the film you also feel satisfied as a viewer.

The famous book by thriller author John le Carré, already produced a memorable six-hour BBC series in the late 1970s. , but Swedish director Tomas Alfredson proved that the story can also be told in two hours.
The Cold War is at its peak in the early 1970s. Retired spy George Smiley (a master acting Gary Oldman) must search for a Russian mole within the British Secret Service.
This is not a film where you can sit back and relax, because as a viewer you have to constantly pay attention. Few indications are given and important developments are hardly noticeable, because they are not made bold. The star cast (including the famous actors Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, John Hurt and Benedict Cumberbatch) plays great and it is all very beautifully shot. Viewing several times is recommended, given the complexity of the plot.

Film adaptation of the complex spy novel by John Le Carré who was one of the executive producers. Control [John Hurt] sends Jim Prideaux [Mark Strong] to Budapest in the early 1970s to talk to a Hungarian general who knows who the mole is within MI. When Jim is shot by a waiter [[Péter Kálloy Molnár] during a meeting with his contact [Zoltán Mucsi], Control decides to convene his top agents. being shot in the street, Control summons his chief agents to assume responsibility and announce his own departure and that of George Smiley [Gary Oldman]. A few years later, Smiley is tasked with investigating who the mole was. The screenplay consists of an excess of dialogue and introduces so many characters that it is difficult to follow it all. The non-chronological structure doesn't help, although Alfredson does his best to add some dynamism and the impressive cast (including Tom Hardy, Toby Jones and Benedict Cumberbatch) does a great job. The 1979 miniseries of the same name starring Alec Guinness as Smiley is a lot better.
