Call me crazy, but I had a great time with this 'Gnomeo and Juliet'. Obviously I'm not the target audience (Although...) but I thought it was a fun movie.
From the first second you can already see that it doesn't take itself seriously anywhere, because it already opens with a list of clichés that will come along. For adults, this is immediately a big wink, and that's nice.
The light-hearted and entertaining atmosphere is present throughout the film, so that the film never gets boring. Joke after joke is fired at you, as well as puns and simple 'hints'. The computer is not from 'Apple', but instead has a banana on it. The commercial of the 'Terrafirminator', a devastating lawnmower that no one would want to own, is said to be "Not suitable for domestic violence." These are examples of jokes that children wouldn't understand. or even stand out, but adults all the more so. And so it goes throughout the film.
The entire Romeo and Juliet story has of course already been exhausted, but in this comic animation film it can even be called refreshing, the way this love story is handled. There's nothing wrong with it, even a 'living' statue of William Shakespeare himself is featured.
Also a nice load of cameos pass by, even the man who guarantees the music, Elton John, is made fun of. I like this kind of British humor.
Nice!

The world famous story "Romeo & Juliet" by the English playwright, poet and actor William Shakespeare, but with garden gnomes
The garden of the Montague family is right next to that of the Capulet family. The garden gnomes of both families are sworn enemies, but that doesn't stop Montague clan gnome Gnomeo (voiced by James McAvoy) from falling head over heels for seductive Capulet pottery member Juliet (voiced by Emily Blunt).
The story may be predictable and sometimes a little too simple, but I still had a fair amount of fun with this computer animation film, which can be enjoyed by young and old. The story contains a joke every few minutes, ranging from nice to very clever. The British voice cast could also be there with James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine and Jason Statham.
Is William Shakespeare turning in his church grave? No, because his "Romeo & Juliet" was itself a book adaptation. All in all nice to have seen this Animation film.

Gnomeo [James McAvoy] is a red garden gnome in the garden of the Montague family. Juliet [Emily Blunt] is blue and lives in the yard of neighbours, the Capulets. Young Gnomeo and Juliet meet when, in disguise, they try to get hold of an orchid at the same time. Anyone who knows the play (and that is an advantage) knows broadly how this ends and will enjoy the many amusing references to Shakespeare's love tragedy. Why it took as many as 15 people (excluding William Shakespeare) to come up with a screenplay is a mystery to me, but the result is very entertaining. And what is a garden without the TERRAFIRMINATOR?
