A doctor buys corpses from Gray, an acquaintance who kills in order to maintain his stash. He now delivers the body of a young woman, a few hours after the doctor saw her in person.

Wonderful black and white film in which the atmosphere, the beautiful cinematography and Boris Karloff are the strongest assets of the film. Bela Lugosi only has a small role here. I also thought Henry Daniell as a doctor was very convincing. There are some beautiful scenes in the film, such as the scene in which the singer is murdered. You don't actually see anything, but the execution with the carriage and shadows is simply well done. The use of shadows is still present in other scenes such as the fight between Gray and the doctor. The horror elements are therefore mainly in the suggestion and the atmosphere surrounding the concept. Nice discovery! 7/10

As expected.
Old horrors like to surprise me every now and then. This one did surprise me in certain parts, but that was only when the real horror came into play. And unfortunately it only really comes into play in the very last minutes.
I had not seen anything with the iconic Karloff beforehand. Which is remarkable since I'm a horror fan. But now that series has come to an end by seeing this film for the first time. But I still had trouble recognizing Karloff.
The film is not boring, but not very interesting either. The story is also more of a drama film with hints of thriller. I actually think the horror is quite misplaced because there is little horror about it in the end. Well, outside of the finale.
Fortunately, the film doesn't last long. 78 minutes is enough for a story like this. In terms of acting, reasonable. Karloff didn't necessarily stand out. I often had difficulty identifying the characters. Mainly kept mixing them up.
It wasn't until the finale that I really liked the film. Because for the rest it was mainly talking in a not very interesting drama film. A few clumsy moments that don't necessarily increase the tension. The real reward takes 70 minutes.
But the final was worth it. Nicely creepy and yet threatening. Also a really nice charm about it. What I especially missed with the rest of the film.
