In the spring, life in Israel is dominated for thirty days by four celebrations that plunge the country into memories of the past. First of all, Easter, Passover, the celebration of the new freedom of the Jewish people after slavery under the pharaohs. This is followed by the National Days of Remembrance of Yom Ha'shoa and Yom Ha'zikaron: on the first day, the country commemorates the victims and heroes of the Shoa, on the second day, a week later, a tribute is paid to the Israeli soldiers who died for their country. The celebration of Independence Day concludes this series of emotional outbursts, this long period of collective commemorations. Izkor, Slaves of Memory is an analysis of the development of this collective memory: what are the symbols, what is the purpose? We trace the life course from childhood to adulthood, from school to the military, to understand how every citizen is instilled with this 'official memory'. The documentary does not question the past, nor does it pass judgment on the present. He highlights the feelings shared by an entire nation. A film about identity and survival.
