The Killers plot
"She's a match for any mobster!"
A gas station attendant is brutally shot by two professional hitmen. Insurance specialist Reardon (O'Brien) becomes interested in the case and digs into the dead man's past. He turns out to be an ex-boxer called 'the Swede', who fell further and further. Reardon discovers more and more of the story, especially that it has something to do with the mysterious Kitty.

Fantastic. Top. Enjoyed this noir filled with riddles from the first to the last second, right down to the last twist. Based on a short story by Ernest Hemingway, who reportedly considered it the only successful film adaptation of his work.
The menacing opening scene immediately draws you into the film. Burt Lancaster plays naturally, but so do the other actors. Albert Dekker, Edmond O'Brien and femme fatale Ava Gardner in the lead.
The acting is taken to a higher level thanks to the excellent work of director Robert Siodmak and cinematographer Woody Bredell. This is about the fifth film I've seen from these people, what a royal couple they are. The camera angles in combination with light contrasts are a feast for the eyes and invite me to review the film, which I will certainly do.
Kudos also to the composer MIklos Rozsa whose score is a perfect accompaniment. See also the finale in The Green Cat in which the violins bring the tension to the top.

Good film in which two hitmen are looking for a gas station attendant in a small town. Simply an excellent film noir with the right tone. The many flashbacks from the perspectives of different characters work especially well here. For Burt Lancaster, this film marked his film debut at the age of 33.

the opening scene with the 2 murderers (in which we recognize The Fat Man from Jake and the Fat Man)
is the most exciting.
We then get to see the story of Lancaster's character through flashbacks, the plot is a bit far-fetched but nevertheless fascinating.
Like a retired boxer, Lancaster more or less falls prey to Femme fatale Gardner, who more or less had her breakthrough with this film.
Excellent noir in which Edmund O Brien gets the most screen time and fills it in well.
