Although this film is titled as a Drama / Comedy it is mainly a Drama. The story (although somewhat of a cliché progression) is quite interesting and also manages to captivate. The execution is also good and that is mainly due to the cast in the form of Ray Liotta and Kiefer Sutherland who both do a good and fun job. Besides these well-known actors there are quite a few other well-known actors playing in it.

I saw this movie a while ago on MGM, but apparently this is a fairly unknown movie (despite the famous cast) because there have been only a few votes cast and the message before me from "waidman" is almost 8 years old.

Recently saw the movie for the second time in my life on AMC. When I first saw the movie in the early 90s, the movie put a mild smile on my face, I thought it was too much of an imitation of MASH, nice try but I didn't think it was a top movie at the time.

Now, after more than 20 years, I have to revise my opinion somewhat after the revision.

Now, after so many years, it is nice to see that some of the actors have built up a nice career, Whitakker, Sutherland and especially Liotta have really made a name for themselves after this film.

In itself it is of course a nice concept, a veterans hospital with a group of committed doctors and nurses and all the problems, both practical and moral, that they encounter during their time.

Of course, this was thwarted by a cowardly, rule-loving, servile administrator.

It would probably have been better for the film if it had opted for pure drama, this subject does not deserve to be taken lightly. But every now and then comedy and romance appear in the film, and unfortunately that does not benefit the story because the situations, unlike in MASH, are not absurd enough for that. What remains, however, managed to captivate me sufficiently this time. In terms of acting, it is fine, in the supporting roles a number of heavyweights appear such as Wallach, Thigpen, Mahoney, David and Tambor. They also partly determine that this is an enjoyable film.

Reasonable film about a doctor who starts a new job at a hospital with quite a few problems. Not really a story, but more the daily routine in a veterans hospital. Enough happens and the film has a fast pace which keeps it entertaining. The comedic tone doesn't really work well. Furthermore a cast with quite a few familiar names.
