Sam 'De Leeuw' was happy as a circus acrobat, but an injury abruptly ended his adventurous life. He started a small business that quickly grew into a successful business. Sam made it, but still he's not happy as a businessman. One day he decides to just leave. He stages a car accident, buys a fake passport and goes out into the wide world.

Itinéraire d'un enfant gâté (Life path of a spoiled child) is a pure comédie dramatique or tragicomedy. Although Jean-Paul Belmondo received a Cesar Award for this in 1989 (the French counterpart of the American Oscars), in my humble opinion this is certainly not his strong performance. The script rattles like an old bus for the first 45 to 50 minutes, but after that the film gains much more speed and story. Speaking of Cesars, a statuette was also received for best music, which I think is certainly deserved. This film was dedicated to Jacques Brel, which is very clearly audible. A slightly lesser Lelouch but definitely worth watching.

Watched this for the first time tonight.
The film is a bit difficult to get going, but the images are often very beautiful and the melacholic songs that accompany them make the whole thing very special.
As Anconina's role grows, slowly but surely more humor emerges. He portrays his character very nicely.
It's not quite the adventure film I thought it would be, but it's certainly not a bad film.
There is more than enough beauty in this film, which makes you decide to continue watching with curiosity.
Belmondo is good and has said goodbye to the action genre for a few years now. Instead, he delivers a beautiful character role, which earned him a Cesar.
All in all, this results in a separate, special film that will not be to everyone's taste.
A nice seven, or 3.5 stars.

Clearly a Lelouch.
Not his best, but certainly enjoyable with the playful, adventurous character, the attention to the musical (Francis Lai - no surprise - and the voices of Nicolle Croisille and (à) Jacques Brel).
Sometimes a bit confusing - why not - but it is above all a comedy to be taken with a pinch of salt, at times touching and certainly also based on the talent of Jean-Paul Belmondo. Hilarious is the scene in which he explains to Richard Anconina (also very thorough) how to pronounce the word "bonjour" and how he should under no circumstances act surprised.
It should come as no surprise that Lelouch makes everything go well in the end.
