It never excites or bores and that is quite an achievement not to let this adventurous and intriguing journey become flat.

Also very beautiful views of nature and rightly awarded laurels for the make-up, which the otherwise excellent actors also deserve.

Wonderful adventure drama by Peter Weir. Was an income for a while but I was slowly sucked in. Breathtaking images, beautiful music, good actors, in-depth conversations with a touch of psychology and striking, strong make-up. Despite the make-up, it's not all that realistic and it ended too abruptly for me (the pace suddenly picked up in the last ten minutes and contrasted with the quietly rippling tour).Witness (1985) remains my favorite Weir film, but this one is hardly inferior and I'm coming to appreciate the best man more and more. I'm sticking to the tradition that the users started below and give 4 < 3.

In 1956, former Polish lieutenant Slavomir Rawicz had his account of an incredible hike during World War II written by Ronald Downing. This film tells the story of a group of prisoners of war who managed to escape from their Siberian concentration camp and embarked on a grueling hike to India that not everyone would survive. Beautiful locations and a strong cast cannot hide the fact that this adaptation is rather formulaic and sentimental. This is of course at the expense of authenticity, but also of your ability to draw attention to it.
