Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith plot

"The saga is complete."

The Clone Wars rage to their zenith when Chancellor Palpatine is kidnapped by General Grievous, a now-famous Jedi slayer. Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi fight as brothers in this fight to save him, and they have a final showdown with the Separatist leader, Count Dooku. But when the Jedi Council finally finds a way to bring the Clone Wars to an end and restore peace to the galaxy, they ignore the fact that Anakin is slowly turning against the Jedi Council when faced with a choice between Obi-Wan and his secret wife Padmé, whom he saw die in a vision. The mysterious Sith Lord Darth Sidious strikes hard for one last time and all events lead to the first Star Wars movie from 1977 as George Lucas closes the final chapter in his story.

“You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them! Bring balance to the force... Not leave it in darkness!”

This third installment in the prequel trilogy is finally getting close to the level and magic of the original trilogy. Revenge of the Sith is an exquisite space adventure and a perfect transition to A New Hope. Anakin's transformation into Darth Vader, the overwhelming opening scene in space, the beautifully designed planets (especially Mustafar), order 66, the heartbreaking scene in the Jedi temple with Anakin and the padawans, the fight between Yoda and Darth Sidious, the fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin etc. There is a lot to enjoy, and the actors are good in their roles too.

McGregor is back on track as Obi-Wan and Ian McDiarmid, Samuel L. Jackson and Frank Oz as Yoda's voices are also excellent. The dialogues aren't great, but the actors make the most of it. The conversations between Anakin and Palpatine are good (especially Palpatine's Darth Plagueis monologue is worth mentioning), and you can see that Anakin gets more and more in the grip of Palpatine. Downside is the romance between Anakin and Padmé, just like in Attack of the Clones. The dialogues, the acting, the chemistry… It just doesn't work. In Attack of the Clones that slightly overshadowed the film, but fortunately that is not the case in this third part. Special mention for the fantastic music of John Williams. You're going to think it's almost normal that Williams comes back with a great score, but of course it's not. Revenge of the Sith is a strong conclusion to George Lucas as ruler of the Star Wars universe.

One of the very best Star Wars movies along with Empire Strikes Back. Everything is moving at a rapid pace here. Anakin's conversion to the Dark Side is presented as a major tipping point, where everything is lost afterward. There really is a before and an after. His character is full of tragedy and his Achilles heel is the fear of losing loved ones. This card is drawn very well here and the conversion feels very believable. This movie also includes the best light saber fights from all 9 movies. Whether it's the duel between Obi Wan and General Grievous or the final battle between Obiwan and Anakin... erm sorry, Darth Vader, the thrills are there and this is what we want to see in a Star Wars movie. The ending is masterful and connects flawlessly to episode IV, which picks up again twenty years later. The most violent of the 9 also taking on merciless traits at times. Apart from episode I, I found this trilogy more than successful.

Star Wars : 4*

Empire Strikes Back : 4.5*

Return of the Jedi : 4.5*

Phantom Menace : 3*

Attack of the Clones : 3.5*

Revenge of the Sith : 4.5*

The Force Awakens : 4*

The Last Jedi : 2.5*

Rise of Skywalker : 3*
