“We deserve better villains.”

Great Drew Barrymore movie. Whip It doesn't have a very original premise, with a young woman forced by her mother to do things she doesn't want to do and ends up chasing her own dreams. But Barrymore does leave her mark on the material, and especially the fact that Bliss practices the sport of 'roller derby' makes for some wonderful scenes. The group of women Bliss has to deal with is a colorful and colorful group, and actresses such as Page, Barrymore, Wiig, Lewis and Bell have a great chemistry together.

Watched this one at random and thought it was a good movie. It was something different in terms of sports, but it was also fascinating. The cast did a great job and the film didn't bore. Worth seeing.

Mediocre.

Indeed, as pointed out by several users, just a mediocre film. Actually, these kinds of comedies score precisely on the human content they manage to obtain, but with this film there is also a bit of sports mixed in. That just doesn't really make it any better.

In any case, you would think that the sports side of the film is most captivating, but it is rather the dynamics between Page and the other characters that manage to form a supporting factor in the film. The sports scenes are rather of mediocre quality, with rather weak camera work and editing that never really goes out of the way to mix in some feeling.

Also predictable and moralistic, but you have to take those kinds of elements for granted in these kinds of films. As far as I'm concerned, a film like Whip It burns out too quickly, leaving too little lasting impression. I am sure that this film completely slipped through my fingers in no time.
