This corner of the horror genre was completely foreign to me until now, I can't compare this film to really any other film I've seen. The film exudes a very mysterious atmosphere that keeps you hooked for the entire running time, the bloody moments are completely in service of the story and never too exaggerated. This way the plot remains interesting, and the strong cast also helps. In addition, the setting is fantastic. Hell House is a very beautiful castle that is very interestingly decorated, this alone could keep me entertained for the entire film.

Wonderfully atmospheric film that, especially towards the end, was sometimes reminiscent of Suspiria together in a mix with The Exorcist and a touch of The Haunting.

The film has a pleasant pace and the atmosphere is all the more enhanced by convincing acting and creative camera points.

The ending suddenly goes very quickly and I had a bit of mixed feelings about it, but at the same time the film is still fresh even today and in my opinion not too predictable.

Unfortunately, I often miss this kind of horror today.

3.5*

Tame, quite dated horror film based on the book of the same name by Richard Matheson. The thick, theatrical acting does not exactly enhance the tension. Visually the film is still okay, with nice camera angles here and there, but very little happens and it certainly doesn't want to be scary. The book seems a lot better to me.
