One of the greatest pre-war disasters, notable because the disaster was filmed extensively just as the Zeppelin was landing in Lakehurst near NYC. To spice up the film, a sabotage theory against the Nazi regime is invoked here, but this was never substantiated due to a lack of evidence. It is a shame that the disaster itself was suddenly filmed in black and white with a lot of footage interspersed. I didn't think this was a very good way of presenting it. Otherwise, there are quite a few spectacular shots of the Zeppelin to be seen; one of the more spectacular scenes is when some mechanics have to patch a tear in the canvas. . A bit thriller-like with the search for the saboteur, but as a disaster film, this wasn't really a masterpiece. Worth watching, nothing more.

A decent film in which a colonel travels on a Zeppelin to ensure safety. Based on the Hindenburg Zeppelin disaster. A mix between a disaster film and a thriller. The search for a possible saboteur fails to really captivate, as the characters remain rather one-dimensional. It is, however, nice to see what life was like inside such a Zeppelin.

A well-made film, especially for 1975, when the film industry did not yet have access to all the (digital) resources it possesses today. Furthermore, it is an entertaining film, although it won't be knocking you off your seat with suspense. However, there are enough side plots, strange characters, and hidden agendas to hold your attention. After all, we know how it ends. It also marked the definitive end of this form of transatlantic transport. The large passenger ships would hold out for a few more years until the airplane took over. Also, a fine performance by the always reliable George C. Scott as the German officer who has to ensure the airship lands safely in America. The cause of the disaster has never been officially established, so the story of sabotage by a bomb isn't even implausible.
