Madeline plot

"In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines, lived twelve little girls in two straight lines..."

The red-haired orphan Madeline lives with eleven other girls in a Parisian boarding school. There they grow up under the watchful eye of Miss Clavel, a good-hearted prudish nun. Madeline is a problem child. She takes on a lot of worries, but always manages to get out of it. Precisely because of this, she has become Miss Clavel's darling. After the death of their patroness Lady Covington, her widower Lord Covington plans to close the school and sell the house. Together with the mischievous boy next door Pepito, the girls will do everything to thwart these plans.

Once watched with an old acquaintance from primary school when we still ate lunch at noon at her house. It used to be a humiliation to watch. Frances McDormand and Nigel Hawtorne played it nice. The rest of the cast (especially Hatty Jones) played way too annoying and theatrical. Couldn't say it was good either. Theme is also a bit chewed up and predictable. This film has to do with this 1.0.

Seen it once as a child and it has always stuck with me, although I didn't remember the whole movie exactly. Some things were still familiar to me like Madeline falling into the water and the kidnapping. The whole atmosphere and setup also reminded me a lot of Annie and The Parent Trap 1998 (funnily enough the same year). Which I like both very much. This is kind of in-between in terms of how good the movie is overall.

Different themes are discussed, that they are evicted from the house, that Madeline no longer has a family, the new boy next door, the kidnapping. Everything complements each other well looks nice away. It's all very simple and easy, but that's the nice thing about a film like this. Enjoyed it again. Just don't think I'll be seeing it again any time soon.

I'd never seen this one before, so I decided to change it. It was quite an entertaining film. A simple story, but thankfully, there were still some funny moments. The cast did a great job, and the film looked great.
