Canada, 17th century. Pierre Esprit Radisson is an enterprising fur trapper. Together with his comrade he dreams of establishing an important trading post on 'Hudson Bay'. An opportunity arises when both are confronted by the emigrated British aristocrat Lord Edward Crewe. They familiarize him with the rough life in Canada. Lord Edward in turn offers them to accompany him on his journey to England. Once there, Lord Edward King must convince Charles II that the proposed trading post could be a lucrative venture. Charles agrees to the financing and Radisson returns to Canada with his business partner and Lord Edward. The company, the 'Hudson's Bay Trading Company', gets off to a good start, until Lord Edward's brother-in-law, drunkenly, kills an Indian and nearly starts a war with the Indians.
