It's rather remarkable that a film starring these two giants is relatively unknown. I'd had the film for a while and finally saw it. It's magnificent, what fantastic acting! Hackman and Pacino are truly fantastic. "Scarecrow" is a film that grabbed me and wouldn't let go, thanks to its atmosphere, the two actors, and the beautiful blend of humor and drama. I don't think I've ever seen a film where the feeling of friendship was conveyed so captivatingly and at times so poignantly. Absolutely beautiful.

A film that proves you don't always need a strong plot to be convincing. Seemingly a story without a beginning or end, with a rather abrupt ending, but above all, a story about old-fashioned friendship. Full of memorable and warm moments, performed by two acting talents who are unparalleled these days. Actually, the only film by the legendary Pacino I hadn't seen yet. As far as I know, it rarely airs on TV, so I bought the DVD, and I have no regrets.

Hackman is also phenomenal, by the way. It's a shame for us that he decided years ago to quit acting and enjoy his retirement. It does resemble the better-known Midnight Cowboy, but I think Scarecrow is slightly better in some respects. It's more to the point, and the chemistry between the two leads is even more effective than in John Schlesinger's film.

With Hackman and Pacino in the lead roles, and cinematography by Vilmos Zsigmond, you might wonder what could possibly go wrong.

Perhaps the simplest answer is simply that this isn't my kind of film. I just don't see it. Yes, both heroes give great performances, but the whole story is a complete failure for me, not because the two buddies don't want to go anywhere, but mainly because it's told in a way that I find unbelievable.

And my hero, Vilmos Zsigmond, simply doesn't get enough space. Not only is the film not about the visuals, but the visuals too often don't drive the experience. It's a shame, another missed opportunity.
