Nice movie. Absurd, sometimes funny. A story that is nice to watch and a cast that plays very well. I was not bored with this movie. I have also seen Borgman and Grimm by Alex van Warmerdam. I also like it and it's good. I do like his style. 4*

Certainly not top 5 material from Warmerdam, but still a very entertaining film with Theo de hond and Marlies Heuer as highlights, she fits well in her role, Gene Bervoets also gets a compliment. Unfortunately, the story drags on a bit and I do miss the real Warmerdam atmosphere in this film, camera work and certainly the location is fine again. A few times it was hit and then it's just fun again, where is that ball!

Very much enjoyed this film by van Warmerdam about a dysfunctional family who assists the queen of the house in the last days of her life (or weeks/months, who knows?). Each character is excellent in his role and the acting is just as good as in the other of Warmerdam's, as if van Warmerdam can effortlessly lift them to a higher level.
The vicious play between Emma Blank and her staff is great. The fact that almost all of them are also more than just staff makes the mutual relationships and the reactions to them very interesting to follow. You feel that sooner or later the bomb will burst...
Not everything is elaborated further. Martin may have been expertly eliminated, but there will be no sequel in this subplot. The ending is also quite open and everything seems to be going as usual, although I wonder what the purpose of the family should be.
What a setting too with that beautiful black house hidden somewhere between the dunes! Good humor with a corner, I like that. On to the next!
