"The stakes don't come much higher"
Hong Kong auto mechanic Chan Foh To (Jackie Chan) sells sports cars, among other things. When a hit man - who is also a race car driver - shakes up the city, Chan helps the police. Only he can get him through wild chases through the streets of Hong Kong. However, the killer is released due to a legal error. He takes Chan's sisters hostage to force him to race against him in Japan.

Decent movie with a few nice action scenes. Like at the police station and in a shop where you could play video games (or something like that 
). The race at the end was also quite fun. 3.5 for a decent movie with Chan.

Mediocrity
I had seen the ending of this film once before, but during a period when I wasn't really into Chan films (and probably didn't even know Gordon Chan by name). So I decided to watch it in its entirety; the result is mixed.
The film is truly a mix of various subgenres, woven into a single movie by a mediocre storyline. The street races are a popular subgenre in Hong Kong, the heroic bloodshed at the police station is somewhat reminiscent of Woo, the crane scene is truly vintage Chan (one massive setting that gets completely destroyed), the casino scene is a typical acrobatic fight scene, and the film concludes with a parkour race. That really is a case of not being able to choose.
The individual action scenes are quite enjoyable, although the finale is unfortunately not really all that impressive. The accelerated races are a bit lackluster and it all takes far too long. The preceding scenes are much faster-paced and more fun. Visually, it is otherwise fairly average, although I must say that the street races at the beginning of the film were atmospheric (a scene I had seen at another time).
The result is a somewhat mediocre and average Chan film, with special mention for one of the worst acting roles ever (Nickel) and the crane scene, which ranks among the better Chan scenes (although he didn't direct it himself and his own input in that scene remains fairly limited).

With Thunderbolt, I expected a parody of Thunderball. But it turned out differently. A film from Chan's glory years, right after Rumble in the Bronx. He was injured there and, exceptionally, had to call upon a stand-in for a few scenes. The film does lack the familiar humor, but it does have some fun fight scenes. Moreover, this is one of the somewhat darker Jackie Chan films that, through the addition of street races and shootouts, manages to make up for a lot of what Chan cannot deliver optimally due to his health problems. But even then, he is in form, and this is certainly not the worst Chan film that the reviews here make it out to be. Certainly not a memorable Chan, but I definitely enjoyed it.
