What a pretentious film this is. Trying to be an exceptional film through all kinds of stylistic tricks, but it gets bogged down in boredom and fuss about nothing. The voice-over can read out so many literary bits of dialogue, it remains painfully boring. As far as I'm concerned, it really is a monstrosity of a film and if the running time of barely 1.5 hours feels like way too long, that should say enough.

Painfully average. Wonderful film that focuses entirely on atmosphere and leaves the story for what it is. Visually there is plenty to experience, with a particularly strong use of light/darkness and slow, elegant camera work. Although all in all it could have been a little more daring in that area. The strongest point of the film is the soundtrack, which is really atmospheric. The continuous drones in the background combined with the slow pace of the film have an almost hypnotic effect. The minimalist design of the film is perfect and makes the atmosphere even better. Although some will have difficulty with the lack of stability in terms of plot.

Not much more to say about it. Just like February, a wonderfully atmospheric slow burner. Bring on Perkins' next one. 4*.

For contemporary horror films, this is without a doubt a film that slows down the pace quite a bit and has more in common with older horror films such as: The Haunting ( 1963)
This clearly makes it not a film for everyone, for example people who are not at all familiar with old (horror) cinema and are only used to the speed of today may find it boring quite quickly. At the same time, it is a nice new surprise for people who love the classics.

The atmosphere is built up in a very oppressive way and shadows and sounds are used in a creative way. Don't expect any cheap scare effects in this film, because thank goodness there are none (maybe with the exception of the television scene ). It seems to be a tribute to films such as Psycho (1960) and Poltergeist (1982) and in my opinion more than welcome in contemporary horror.

The ending does not reveal everything and leaves a lot up to the viewer himself for me personally a great ending, but this will also not appeal to everyone.

Ridiculously low score.

Netflix, more of this please!
4*
