The story of African-American action legend and CIA agent Black Dynamite (Michael Jai White) in the 1970s. When the Italian mafia colds his brother and pumps heroin into the local orphanages, Black Dynamite is out for revenge. He takes on the mafia and their leader, known only as ''the man'', and also uncovers corruption within the US government.

Michael Jai White stars in this parody of and homage to the Blaxplotation films of the 1970s. Black Dynamite decides to take revenge when his younger brother appears to have been shot by unknown people and of course comes across a conspiracy by 'the man'. Director Scott Sanders knows how to imitate the style of the blaxploitation film - grainy image, jump cuts, extreme zoom effects, lightning-fast editing, etc. - but although despite the short running time [75 minutes + credits] it is a bit long-winded, because the joke is quickly clear and the rest is mainly a repetition of moves, up to the witty finale. But you'd rather watch the 25-minute segment 'A Fistful Of Yen' from The Kentucky Fried Movie.

Nice piece of work to create a kind of blaxploitation film such as Black Dynamite with a low budget. Let it be said that blaxploitation should suit you and saying this it is not for me anyway. Yet with Michael Jai White in the lead role, it manages to attract quite a lot of attention and there is proof that the man not only has martial arts available, but also acting. Due to the cinematography with super 16 and stock footage, it was quite possible to realize this 70s production with little money. Yet it is all just a bit too thick in terms of appearance and again said you have to love it to be able to enjoy it.

It's a shame that it's a rather bland spoof instead of a film that has enough of its own face. It's a parody of blaxploitation rather than an ode to it. It is all much too thick and the humor is often not very successful. Some scenes are well worth watching and Black Dynamite (both the movie and the character) look good. It is also a plus that there is quite a bit of nudity and violence in it. It's a real shame that the film has an overly obvious 'look at us being self-conscious' vibe about it that largely swallows the film up, especially in the second half of the film. Too bad because the concept is fun in the base, the 70ties atmosphere is well hit and there are a number of entertaining scenes (and also jokes) that help the film on its way. 2.5 stars.
