"There's a monster in all of us"
Gloria is a woman who, after losing her job and being kicked out of her apartment by her boyfriend, is forced to leave her life in New York and return to her hometown. When news breaks that a giant creature is destroying Seoul, Gloria slowly comes to realize that she is somehow connected to this phenomenon. When things start to spiral out of control, Gloria must determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a huge impact on the fate of the world.

A rather idiotic, exhausting fantasy story, to which there is really no strings attached. The fact that it still seems a bit is due to the intense, natural playing of Hathaway and to a lesser extent Sudeikis (who goes full against it but suffers from a ridiculously poorly written role) and, despite the fact that there is some violence in the film, also because of the pleasant tone (nice music, nice supporting roles, fairytale happy ending). The film never bored me for a moment, but those who wait until the end for a somewhat understandable explanation for everything that happened in Colossal will be disappointed. More of a film that you should watch with your feelings than with your mind, but even then I say: I have rarely seen a playful, childish film that is so difficult to explain. Director Vigalondo has a lot of creativity and fantasy in his method, but also a lot of chaos in his head, I think. Hopefully he will succeed in bringing some more coherence to his stories in his next films.

A decent film with a different story. Although it is a bit far fetched, that should not spoil the fun, after all it is a fantasy with a touch of drama and comedy. In any case, the idea was liked. The cast is also doing well, Hathaway and Sudeikis are on a roll and it all looks great. An entertaining video!

A surprising mixture of drama, comedy and science-fiction that is reminiscent of 'Chronicle' [2012] in terms of approach. Anne Hathaway (who looks suspiciously like Claudia Winkleman here) plays one of her best roles as Gloria, a troubled young woman who returns to her hometown after 25 years in hopes of putting her derailed life on the right track. A reconnection with childhood friend Oscar [Jason Sudeikis] lands her a job, but when Gloria discovers the bizarre link between an old playground and the mysterious appearance of a hulking monster in Seoul, both lives are turned upside down.
Nacho Vigalondo wrote and directed this enjoyable SF film where things never go as expected and while the surprising twists and turns can sometimes lead to frowning, Vigalondo can't be blamed for getting the most out of Hathaway in this unique, entertaining SF movie.
