"An American Cavalcade!"
Alexander's Ragtime Band and Stella Kirby (Alice Faye) are mistakenly paired up during an audition. Although Stella and Alexander (Tyrone Power) regularly argue, they put their problems aside at the request of Charlie Dawyer (Don Ameche), who is in love with Stella. Bad times begin for Charlie when Stella and Alexander fall in love; a thirty-year friendship is at stake.
