Entertaining but a bit too noisy.

The horror theme makes Chinese people quite loud, especially in those Hong Kong comedies. After a while, that became quite annoying.

Chow as Leon is a delight, and there is also enough silliness and random antics to keep it very entertaining. However, none of it makes any sense, so you certainly shouldn't watch it for any logical or endearing script.

Those HK comedies have a limited target audience anyway. This one may spoof some American work (what is it with Léon over there, anyway?), but it remains primarily HK humor.

Quite funny, completely nonsensical, and nice and short. So, ideal as a snack.

Wui wan yeh (Out of the Dark) is a typical Hong Kong slapstick comedy horror starring Stephen Chow. He also stars as the "Ghostbuster" with a flower that always turns towards the evil spirits (handy!).

You can definitely tell where Naked Gun got its inspiration from, and if this is your kind of humor, you should definitely watch this one. Countless people get kicked in the crotch. A ghost with a severed head (who falls into a bag of money and eats all of it?). Men groping a beautiful woman to see if she's still alive. That's the level of this movie, hahahaha. Yeah, and too much craziness to mention.

I was really cracking up; there's one guy who gets stabbed with a knife the whole time, hit by a car, electrocuted, and who knows what else. And the scene where Leo (Chow) explains how he was hardened by life as a kid and that's why he's never afraid. Yeah, a classic.

The camerawork is also very fine, with beautiful shots and a vibrant array of colors. As a director, Chow is certainly capable of delivering something cinematographically with this film.

The story is quite simple. In an apartment building, there are a number of ghosts who are messing around and can possess people, and they need to be banished. Stephen Chow gets help from a group of highly incompetent security guards, some of whom speak a different kind of Chinese and understand nothing. They were almost all cast for their dumb faces; it wouldn't surprise me if a star-studded cast from the Hong Kong comedy scene surrounds Chow here. Each one is an even bigger loser than the last.

Well, I love it, of course it’s just a little bit less than Sik San and Kung Fu Hustle (his greatest masterpieces as far as I’m concerned). But after all that serious American horror, I was really ready for this. And by now you’ve probably figured out that I like slim movies, and at 86 minutes, this one is really as sculpted as a supermodel—not a minute too much!
