Playboy Clark Gable and vamp Jean Harlow in an unusual role for them.

America, plunged into crisis, could marvel at the luxury displayed and enjoy the promoted partner fidelity.

Not great and a bit naive, but still quite enjoyable.

Strange to find James Stewart only in sixth place on the cast list.

The flaw of this film is that you as a viewer know that nothing is going on between Clark Gable and his secretary Jean Harlow. Myrna Loy's slowly growing distrust of her husband is mainly based on suggestive gossip and coincidences. It would have improved the tension of the film if the viewer had also sown some doubt. Now it is unfortunately a fairly flat story.
Of the top cast, Harlow definitely stands out. She shows once again that she is much more than the blonde sex bomb, for which she is often mistaken. Looks like Gable and Loy are on autopilot. Partly because of this, the whole comes across as rather uninspiring. Jimmy Stewart is still at the very beginning of his career and has no more than a supporting role.

BBarbie above suggests that it would have been a good idea if the viewer also had some doubt about whether Van was really faithful to Linda .

That suggestion is (although very minimal) indeed aroused in the viewer and that is more than enough.

Furthermore, a fascinating film about the subject of gossip and backbiting about possible infidelity, the 3 main characters play their roles very well and Gable is perfect for the role.

James stewart's character is a bit less credible, I wondered at the end what reason he should have to take back Helen since it is very clear that he is 2nd choice.
