"The people of Curalha in the Passion of Christ"

While looking for locations for his film Bread, Oliveira came across a northern Portuguese village. A religious play is performed there every year. Influenced by the ritualistic qualities of their production, Oliveira returned to the village to take up the same religious play with the residents.
