Special, even now. If you delve into this a bit, then this was even more special in those days, but now the techniques used are so commonplace that it is no longer noticeable. Nevertheless, this still remains a fresh film that has its own face, especially in the first hour. The whole film then looks a bit like some finger exercises in style and those scenes all but glued together. Sometimes it doesn't always run smoothly, but as a whole it works. The second part has a calmer tone, although the content does not always remain mainstream. Still Truffaut manages to get a certain emotion into it, although I found the second hour a bit less than the first. Acting is decent, with Moreau in particular as the center, sometimes radiant, sometimes emotional. Ultimately, it's the infinitely enjoyable first hour that gives the film a 4.0*.

The story of a love triangle after a beautiful woman disrupts the friendship between 2 men. The film is indeed called Jules et Jim (without Catherine's name) because it is precisely the reaction and relationship of the 2 men that is central. Gradually, I noticed more and more how beautiful the film is in terms of light use and black and white. Sometimes a bit dated, but in general a fascinating film from the Nouvelle Vague.

Rather bland.

You do indeed see some things that Jeunet later used in his own films, but in the end this film is more of an illustration that inspiration in itself is worth nothing, but what someone adds to it themselves, because I couldn't imagine Truffaut's hassle plums.

In any case, not really a director to which I can immediately stick a style. This is now my third and I found the three films quite different, although I've seen them far apart and the others don't help me too much anymore. This apparently falls under the Nouvelle Vague, but I also saw much nicer and fresher films.

Very mediocre acting, annoying characters and some outdated stylization ensure that the love triangle never really sparkles or becomes fun. It all runs pretty angular and when Truffaut adds some extra drama, it doesn't interest you at all. Nice that he still tries to make something of this film, but there was hardly anything that worked.

1.5*
