Caroline Brooks (Esther Williams) is a swimming teacher who falls in love with Steve Elliot (Red Skelton), a well-known composer who writes music for a water ballet. The love is mutual and the couple is already planning to get married. Steve Elliot's manager George Adams fears that the found happiness will jeopardize music writing and devises a ruse to drive the couple apart.
