Kevin "white hope" Costner
Great movie this. Finally, a film that tells the true story of the black woman at NASA in the 1960s. It's outrageous how these women were treated. Genuinely translated by Hollywood to the silver screen. Felt like I was just there it was that authentic. For a moment I thought, yes yes all white people are racist again! But then there was Kevin Costner. The hero of the film who fortunately does have my tan. Without him, the black woman would still not have been able to go to a normal toilet! Yes! Let's be nice to each other, sweetie! Black, white, yellow, purple! Say no to racism! The black woman has goddamn brains too. And the white man really cares about the rights of black people in the population! Why gray tones, why deeper layer! Nonsense. First we see 3 scenes in which the black woman has a hard time and then we get another scene in the car in which they indicate that they are SAT! Fuck subtle cinema!

Very decent film about 3 black women whose decisiveness, intelligence and perseverance have helped NASA sharpen its competition with the Soviets. Although I am not very familiar with mathematical physics and this is often discussed in the film, I have never had a feeling of dullness or have not been annoyed by it. Despite these mathematical formulas, the film remains very relaxed and lighthearted.
The emphasis of the film is rather in the overt and subtle interweaving of the segregation between whites and blacks, topped with a sauce of space race (and Cold War) between the United States and the Soviet Union. And feel free to add the unequal treatment between men and women. So double wrong for these three main characters.
The film shows very subtly that institutionalized racism was ingrained in American culture and that not only right-wing populists (to pick just one target group) are guilty of it, but also progressive bigots (working for the government). The film is on thin ice there because it sometimes tended to be between an (unequal) battle between white bad guys and poor blacks. Theodore Melfi took that quite well, by the way, because propaganda was not his goal and in my opinion was not achieved.
I read below that there are some doubts about the accuracy of the film. It may be suffused with Hollywood drama, and there is indeed a difference between a "true story" and "based on true facts". It seems clear to me that some things are a bit magnified: for example when Catherine was denied access to the Space Center during Glenn's launch and a little later the chief let her in anyway ...
A bit much emphasis on the feel-good content, but quite engaging and inspiring film. Simply good, without further ado: 3.5*

A wonderful film about three black women who have meant a lot to space travel in the USA. Despite difficult formulas, which have played a major role in their lives because of the work the ladies did, it has remained a light-hearted story. There is a battle at first between the "nerd" in the department and (I believe) Dorothy Vaughn over who should make the calculations in the end. Well, we know who ultimately had the brain and who didn't.
A nice biography with occasional humorous bits. 
A beautiful 8+!
