Positive points are the splendor of colors, the locations, the photography and of course the two female leads, in particular Barbara Bouchet as Greta. The story is somewhat easy to follow, but towards the end the film loses some power due to very simple twists and simple kills. There could have been more here, provided there was a little more ingenuity in the plot. The duck hunting scene and the lesbian scene (although short) are the moments of the film. The various shots of Venice and the erotic dances during the music tunes from an LP are also nice.

6.5/10

Mediocre crime mystery that needs haunted house music and/or thunder in the background to accentuate an ominous atmosphere at certain moments. At its core, a fairly simple story about a rather naive young woman who goes to the home of a writer and his voluptuous wife in search of traces of her friend who has disappeared without a trace.

Farley Granger remains far removed from his earlier roles in films by Alfred Hitchcok and Nicholas Ray, among others. Barbara Bouchet and Rosalba Neri regularly take off their clothes to spice things up, but that hardly has a function in the story.

Beautiful opening in the Venice of the early 1970s, which was not yet burdened by mass tourism. It then quickly develops into a mystery movie with arty settings and beautiful nature. The actors are on a roll. I knew Farley Granger from his work with Hitchcock, but apparently he also has giallo's to his name. Barbara Bouchet shines as the leading/suffering figure. Besides mystery, this film contains sleasy seventies post-hippie drugs and sex scenes. But always presented in a fashionable way: arthouse meets trash. The slow motion lesbian scenes are not even funny but they fit the atmosphere. The denouement has the necessary twists to keep it interesting. The music is by Teo Usuelli and one of the themes was subsequently used in The Big Lebowski. Amuck! is for me one of the more coherent and better giallo's, never boring and always stylish.
