Jawadde what a good movie this... I think one of Bronson's finest from his post-western period. There is a lot more psychology than in his later action films. The camera sometimes zooms in very closely on Bronson: on his face, his eyes, hands... I'm not sure what the director was aiming for with that, but I thought it did have added value. It was initially intended that there would be some sort of gay undertone between Bronson and JM Vincent; unfortunately they had to leave this out, then it would certainly have been a classic, especially when you consider what year the film is from. Now it remains a subtle power game between two unfeeling figures, in which it is a matter of gauging how both look at each other. Hitman Arthur certainly has a lot of admiration for his younger disciple here, while Steven makes it harder to see through his cards and ambitions. Furthermore, a great intro with no spoken word for 15 minutes, some solid action scenes and a conclusion that will make the fans of Bronson prancing .

yes nice! Charles Bronson 70s as hitman. Cool frog, Bronson has of course just that head on which no emotion can be read, charm 0 and yet it often worked fine. He's actually a bit fatherly on tour here when he takes on a young protégé. Start off fairly calm in the first half and in the second half a great bike chase and a great hit in Europe. Story mwoah, it's not all that important. Cranky, cold, effective.

Received this this week on an R1 blu ray and watched it tonight.

Bronson in the role of hitman is obviously made for him. Keep in mind that the first quarter of an hour, during which there is no talking for minutes, is the best part of the film. Then it settles down a bit, to go full against it again in the last part. Vincent -although somewhat pedantic- is quite daring for him as a protégé.

On the extras, scriptwriter Carlino says that the two hitmen were originally supposed to have a gay relationship with each other, but that was seen as too daring for the time and was immediately dismissed when the two ultra-straights Bronson and Winner met the movie were added.

Despite the changes in the script, this remains an unusual action thriller with two emotionless hard-core protagonists in the main roles.

A number of unusual shots and close ups, the smooth, but here and there a bit confused editing and the atmospheric score by Jerry Fielding do the rest.

A big seven, or 3.5 stars.
