Indiana Holmes.

A fun adventure film based on a young Sherlock Holmes. Not really well put together as a detective as we are used to from many of Doyle's stories, but this is not from his pen. Spielberg's hand is clearly noticeable, reminiscent of an Indiana Jones take on the British sleuth.

Good.

This youth film cuts a fine figure and is without doubt a well-made homage to Arthur Conan Doyle. Holmes' first case while still at a London academy and where he met Watson. Several people die of terrifying hallucinations in strange circumstances and Holmes seizes his chance to solve the riddle. There are a lot of nice nods to the source material, and that is just very nicely done here. The special effects were impressive, with the stained glass man being the most impressive. Spielberg's hand behind the scenes is recognizable, with the scene of the mummification during a cult ritual that is very reminiscent of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Had seen that movie as a child and then I thought it was better than say The Goonies.

Good film in which the teenagers Sherlock Holmes and John Watson become friends. Fairly adventurous. It all looks good with excellent decoration, beautiful decors and perhaps outdated but still well-functioning special effects. The film works a little better if you are already familiar with the detective duo. A small 3.5 stars.
