Hilariously flawed film, just as I imagined. However, I have to say that I expected a little more action, but because the dialogues are often so strong and funny (typically Tarantino) that is not a loss. But the action and horror that was there was of course super over the top, but fun. In addition, it was filmed incredibly tightly, saw that Tarantino was also director of Photography, so apparently he is also good. And the cast is top notch, especially Kurt Russell (although many people I watched the movie with thought it was Jeff Bridges).
Certainly not the best of his, but totally worth it.

Tarantino at his best. Death Proof isn't for everyone, that's clear from the very first scene. But I enjoyed the movie, and it's Tarantino the way I like it. It's even more pulpy than usual, and from the start with the weird transitions, the visible scratches and the occasional audio dropout, you know you're watching a 'Tarantino classic'. As usual, the story is simple, but it's the long dialogues/monologues, the acting, and just Tarantino's crazy brainwashing that makes it fun. Such a scene with two cars colliding with each other, where you see 4 or 5 times in a row how everyone dies is pure enjoyment. Also the black and white opening of the second part, where it suddenly turns into color, are those little things that make it so interesting to watch a Tarantino movie.
A car racer targets women, and the film is split into two parts. With the ever strong Kurt Russell as the common denominator. But this is a movie where the actresses excel, and Ferlito (no, not just for the lap dance), Bell, Dawson, Poitier, McGowan and Winstead are all great. Bell in particular is fantastic and the typical Tarantino humor is made for her. And she's also a stunt woman in real life, which works out well in this movie. Death Proof is the last Tarantino movie I had yet to see and I can finally say it, the man doesn't know how to make bad movies.

I've waited a long time but finally watched it, Tarantino is becoming more and more a favorite director for me, I notice. His love for the old style films (this film also seems to come straight from the 60s in the first half and the second half is more 70s/80s) and also his love for older music and therefore also wonderful soundtracks make him a very creative and tasteful director. Also in Death Proof Tarantino seizes as many opportunities as possible to literally put some pictures on the record player in this case. 
The great thing about Death Proof is that the film clearly consists of 2 stories, the first where the women die horribly and in every detail .. and the 2nd story which seems to go the same in the beginning but suddenly very nicely the roles are reversed and yet manages to surprise the viewer, they work together excellently. Add to that the fact that Tarantino actually had all the stunts performed and not done in a simple way through CGI and my respect and a big bow then come naturally. 
4 stars without a doubt, chance of an increase if I watch the film again.
