The film is set a few days before the acquittal of the white cops who beat up black motorcyclist Rodney King during an arrest, and the race riots that broke out in Los Angeles in 1992 following this acquittal. Veteran Eldon Perry teaches rookie Bobby Keough about the world of police harassment and corruption. Assistant Chef Holland threatens to rebel against Perry's enforcement of 'justice'.

This crime film manages to keep the balance between thriller, action and even drama well enough to entertain from start to finish. Russell is on a roll. Good.

Dark Blue is not exactly the kind of movie you would expect from someone like Kurt Russell. Usually he acts in more easily digestible films, but on the other hand he does a pretty good job in this film. He convincingly conveys his character, who is full of anger and knows that his heyday is history.
The rest of the cast, however, is much less, although it is always nice to see someone like Vhing Rhames. The story is solid, although the corruption aspect within the police has already been told many times. In addition, it is reasonably well developed, with the emphasis clearly on the dual roles of the various characters. The film is atmospheric and the music is decent and above all very gloomy. It is a heavier film than you think at first glance. The action fans will also find very little of their genre in this. There is some decent hard action in it, but the amount is not large.
All in all, a decent movie. Quite gloomy at times, with excellent acting by Russell, and not an easy sight to behold.
