Zavet plot
Tsane lives on a mountain with his grandfather Cvetka. Together with their neighbor they are the only inhabitants of the entire village. Cvetka tells Tsane that he doesn't have long to live and asks if Tsane will fulfill his three last wishes for him. Tsane has to go to town and sell their only cow there. With that money he has to buy a religious icon, then something he wants himself and finally he has to find a wife and come home with that.

Indeed a somewhat inferior film by Kusturica, due to the abundance of slapstick and childish inventor humor. But that does not take away from the fact that it is, as always, a wonderfully fun and endearing film, made with a lot of enthusiasm. I have nothing against some magical realism, so flying people and strange construction workers did not bother me, but the somewhat stupid Home Alone tricks did. The music is nice but not exceptional, the acting performances are ok and the scenario, as far as that matters, is pleasant. Perhaps a bit too many elements from earlier films that return, so that you keep thinking that, for example, Black Cat White Cat is a much better film 
But despite these drawbacks, I remain a fan of Kusturica, and I watched the film with great pleasure.
By the way: Dr. Nelle Karajlic, the singer of Kusturica's No Smoking Orchestra, is currently performing in the amazing costume of that blue angel from this movie - I got to see it myself at Couleur Cafe last weekend

A nice film by Kusturica, but it must be said that it does not come close to his previous films.
Zavet is not much different from his other films. Bizarre over the top humor, sometimes nicely banal, strange characters, lots of cheerful music and lots of animals fill in this Zavet. That all sounds good. It certainly is in the first half, but at some point Kusturica seems to lose the balance a bit. The pace is extremely high and at some moments Kusturica seems to just want to put way too much into certain scenes, which causes the line to slowly but surely disappear from the film. Because of this, the more than two hours that the film lasts, feel a bit long at some point. That is something I never had with his previous films.
Furthermore, it lacks a bit of depth. The main character has to think about the future, because his grandfather will probably no longer be around, but that element is rarely reflected in the story. Apart from all the criticism, there is fortunately still plenty to enjoy. The crazy characters and Kusturica's creative approach ensure that I still regularly watched with a smile on my face. The camera work is also of an above-average quality and furthermore it is a film that you can enjoy yourself with and that is what I did.
“Only” an easy pass.

Man, I almost peed my pants laughing. One of Kusturica's best movies!
And yes, those flying people. Actually, there is only one, the living cannonball that is shot out of the circus tent and keeps flying around the entire film. Keep paying attention if your fantasy world is not that big.
