A Londoni Férfi plot

Maloin operates the switches at a train station at a ferry port. One day something strange happens after the last boat arrives. A man does not take the usual route and waits in a dark corner for another man with a suitcase. The two start fighting and one falls into the water with the suitcase, never to surface again. When the switch clerk comes to the rescue, the killer flees without taking the briefcase. Maloin's life changes when he opens the briefcase and finds a lot of money.

I was quite disappointed with the first Tarr. It was exceptionally slow, and for me, this one was simply too slow. The story wasn't anything to write home about either. The problem I often have with cinematically stunning films is that they forget the story. Here, it seems like they're trying to make a beautiful film and then suddenly realize, "Damn, it needs a story." The soundtrack didn't really stick either. The film's fantastic look remains. Hence, a 1.5.

Beautiful images, without a doubt.

But that's where the fun ends. The story is excruciatingly slow—half the time it took, it would still have been a sluggish affair. The soundtrack—as far as I understand it, dubbed in broken French in hindsight—is abysmal, out of sync, and the diction doesn't match the visuals. It really makes it difficult to feel any appreciation for what remains. Such a shame.

Incredibly slow, practically in real time. It can be overwhelming. So, more of a psychological portrait of an event that could have been shortened by an hour. It's certainly exciting, if you take the time for it.
