This cartoon was when I was still in group 5 of primary school, my acquaintance with Asterix and I remember that I couldn't stop laughing, after which I quickly saw all the other cartoons about the Gaul and also quickly read all the comics had. Despite that one good experience and many viewings, my interest in this first part quickly diminished. The other films (particularly De Helden and De Britten) turned out to be much better and, in addition to the comics, this has faded completely. Incidentally, this is the most faithful comic book version from the Asterix series, but since that strip is actually not a high-quality highlight for the series, it is obvious that it is a lesser film. Even as a child I noticed that many animations were reused and that it sometimes goes a bit slow, as if the makers hardly knew how to fill the too limited story to just over an hour of playtime.

Now, so many years later, the weaknesses are once again apparent. It's actually just a pretty bad film with limited animations, little atmosphere, especially a lot of bland humor and, as said, a story that is too limited for the running time. You almost feel like you're watching a group of filmmakers yet to find their way, something I've always felt with the comic, where Goscinny and Uderzo also slowly got better and better. This makes Asterix the Gaul especially interesting as the start. The start of the comic series, later the animation series and even later for my love for Asterix. The nostalgic value really keeps him out of the lowest regions of my voice lists for me, but only the voice actor of Obelix and the music are still worth it. That music has somehow always stayed with me and I always automatically heard it in my head when I read an Asterix comic.

I lower to 2 stars.

As a lover of the Asterix comics and cartoons I have also seen this one. The first story of Asterix is also unfortunately the weakest and this cartoon is almost a copy of the comic of the same name. When you speak of Asterix, you also mention Obelix in the same breath. Obelix only plays a minor role in this story. The comic note here must mainly come from a farmer who drives an ox cart. A bit bland but the songs he sings are quite entertaining and have always stuck in my head just like the tune during the dance of the Gauls. A good first attempt and I give this one just a pass in the knowledge that the cartoons and comics got a whole lot better over time.

The starting gun of the Asterix marathon with two friends yesterday. The first Asterix movie based on the first Asterix comic album, so also a logical choice to start with.

It can be seen that this is the first film, the animation is quite mediocre, for example because of backgrounds that are filled with people who are frozen, while there is some action in the foreground. Musically no complaints, because the soundtrack sounds ironic when it has to be, and is nowhere else melancholy, something that sometimes goes wrong in later Asterix films.

Furthermore, the comic album is followed fairly faithfully. This results in a nonsensical, but very entertaining story that is presented in a suitably dry way. Still very enjoyable. Of the six films we've seen, clearly not the best, but certainly not the least. 3*.
