Mrs Brown is quite simply Queen Victoria.

Very good film that taught me something about part of the life of Queen Victoria, longest reigning (63 years) English monarch.

It would be based on historically known events, although the film remains very discreet about the intensity of the friendship between the Queen and Brown.

Good construction, costuming and photography and the unparalleled acting performance of Dame Judy Dench, although Billy Connolly's was also excellent.

Great movie and it really happened. Queen Victoria was even buried with a photograph and a lock of Mr Brown's hair. Must have been great love...

Solid.

Even more than Judi Dench, Billy Connolly provides the necessary panache as the 'free' servant of the unsympathetic and depressed Victoria. The film focuses on the relationship that develops and I think it does it quite well. The political games around it are perhaps a little less easy to express, but they are present somewhere. Visually it is not the most polished costume film, but as a history lesson it is certainly fascinating. It is striking that a few years after John Brown Victoria (more or less) had the same kind of relationship with the Indian servant Abdul (and with a similar course of jealousy among her surroundings).
