Reasonable film about a group of criminals who are hiding in the metro system of Paris. The introduction of the characters and the story is a bit messy and because of this it doesn't really captivate. But the film does look good with excellent camera work and the setting (the underground) also gives the film its own look. Also a nice soundtrack.

Damn, that's Christopher Lambert. The man behind countless B-movies. Didn't know he could speak French.

After Le Dernier Combat it was also time to see this old film by Luc Besson.

It already starts like a typical French action movie; a wild chase through the streets of Paris in the 1980s. It seems that a certain Fred has to flee from the police. He soon finds his way out in the nearest subway station. And this underground passage seems to be bigger than many people thought.

He already knows how to move and soon meets other eccentric figures who almost live there. Jean Reno as a silent man who hits everything with his drumsticks. Jean Hugues Anglade plays as a roller-skating bag thief, Helene who seduces him, a florist, a real punk band... It forms a colorful and bizarre fairy tale that does not see daylight due to the setting.

Fred knows how to find himself in this world, while the police and subway security want to pull the net around him. For example, Subway has many ingredients and creations and it even seems to become a musical in the long run.

Besson has created a fine and creative piece of cinema in this, in which the modern dynamics that he applies in his later films are already clearly visible here.

Pffff... actually only taken because of the name Besson and upon returning home immediately lowered my expectations after seeing the reviews. But even with that knowledge, Subway managed to surprise me in a negative way. What a bullshit movie.

Fred flees after a raid, and with the pursuers on his heels, into the Parisian metro system, and for a moment, especially because of the nice chase scene in combination with the music, I had the optimistic thought that this could be an underrated action cult film. But no... soon the film gets bogged down in a disjointed whole with two more jobs, forming a band, and very, very many characters that seem to add little. I have not been able to discover any line or logic at all and it is that an absurdist kind of humor emerges a number of times, but otherwise this would have been a very lost evening.

Oh... what a joke, even with the humor it was a crap movie so a complete waste of time. Well, yes, it seems clear to me. But hey, tastes differ...
