This third Star-Trek movie picks up right where part 2 (The Wrath of Khan) left off. The crew of Enterprise returns home only to learn that their ship is too old to be used any longer. However, when McCoy starts acting like Spock, and claims to want to go to the planet Vulcan, Kirk decides to steal the Enterprise to save McCoy and Spock.

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock is the sequel to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) and the second part of the trilogy, which would eventually conclude with Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986).
The film picks up where the previous film left off: Lieutenant Commander Spock has sacrificed himself to save the crew of the Enterprise, and is shot into a coffin in orbit around the planet Genesis. After that, the spaceship leaves for Earth for the necessary repair work. However, the crew gets more and more signals that Spock may still be alive, and so a rescue mission is sent to Genesis to save him. However, they are thwarted by a bunch of evil Klingons, who have nefarious plans for the planet.
I don't think the third Star Trek movie is the best. I found the special effects disappointing and actually not much happens in the film. In addition, Christopher Lloyd is not entirely happy cast as the evil Klingon Kruge. A somewhat dull film, although it is of course always nice to see the old heroes of the Enterprise at work again. 2.5*

Reasonable film in which the crew of the Enterprise returns home, but without Spock. Despite the fact that this is a direct sequel to the previous part, it takes a while before the adventure gets going. Christopher Lloyd didn't work as well as a Klingon for me. Not a bad movie by any means, but personally the worst in the series (despite the fine ending).

Third part.
I've never really found the series particularly special, but I'm going to dig into it a bit further due to some stubbornness. In the meantime I have seen so many films that I just go through film series a bit to combat boredom. However, that wasn't exactly rewarded by including this space adventure when it came on television.
This movie has always had to rely on the characters. Let me find that exactly the failing element. I think the group is boring, and the villains quite ridiculous. I mentioned at the time that I probably should have grown up with these characters, but that's not the case with me. I think it's all just lifeless characters who have special traits but can never communicate this well.
Furthermore, in terms of effects, it looks outdated but grand. I could appreciate all the fuss surrounding science fiction. That's just part of that time and this film manages to get quite far in that. Added up a number of successful ideas and you have a fairly stable ground under your feet. However, what is on it is of somewhat lesser quality.
I was actually hoping for some more impressive character design. The villains look silly and the combatants are dull. In general, it is mainly a film that cannot be burned forward and that way it is difficult to get through. In the context of the series, it is a pretty successful film to continue the story, but as a film itself I find it tiring.
