I could still remember this movie, even though it must have been at least 15 years since I saw it. I also got to watch it during a social studies class. 15 years later, I still remember what he was about and the idea behind it. This is really a film that they can continue to show in classes and in schools. Perhaps a remake to the present tense, but the lesson is clear.

This is really the example of a Social Studies lesson, and that's where I saw the film for the first time.

Visually, it may be very little, but in terms of content it is a strong film, which in any case manages to convey the message well. The build-up of the story is good, and despite the fact that not everyone's acting is sufficient, it remains quite fascinating. In addition, despite the negatives, The Wave never loses its credibility, and that is actually the most important aspect of a film like this.

Especially the idea that something like this can easily become true and that people are easily influenced by their environment, is actually quite scary to see. A little director can at least get something very good out of such a concept. Grasshoff, however, is not much of a director and only manages to make something nice out of it.

TV production from the early 80's about a very interesting true story, even if it's probably dramatized. A film that served its purpose until a German film version was made of this story in 2008, which disguises this version: Die Welle (2008). Despite the fact that this 1981 version has not withstood the test of time, it is surprising that it has succeeded in terms of the effect it has on the viewer, especially the ending (which differs from the 2008 version) is impressive. 2.5* because nowadays it has come to be in the shadow of the 2008 version.
