What is striking is the, in my opinion, good score. A lot better than the other westerns from that era I've seen so far, although there are only a few. Furthermore, a clear story and a fascinating course of it. The best 1930s western I've seen so far. As usual then, in my opinion, weak acting and the fact that it is black and white bring me to 3* and just under 3.5*. Still, this movie is worth watching. I am becoming more and more interested in old movies.

Not a bad, but rather a mediocre western.

A problem with this film is the fact that it is already very old, and therefore really dated. I don't mind the fact that it's a black-and-white film, though: it does have a certain charm.

The story is decent, and interesting to follow. There are also quite a few action scenes, which are really quite good considering the "year of construction" of the film.
It's just a pity that sometimes terribly illogical things were done, which made it all a bit less believable. To illustrate: John Wayne who simply parks his horse at the entrance of the inn, while he is wanted by the sheriff. I guess no one is stupid enough to do something like that.
John Wayne does it as I've come to expect from him: well, no more. He always plays his parts nicely, but I never feel like he delivers a great performance.

My 10th John Wayne isn't great unfortunately. It's a simple short Western with an athletic Wayne. Sometimes reality is far away, which makes it funny and still entertaining.
